1. WINDSHIELD WIPERS
Mary Anderson had the idea that windshield wipers would be really useful back in 1903. Rod with a rubber wiper was patented a year later. Even though her idea became implemented in car industry a couple of decades later, today we could not image driving without her simple, but also very important invention.
2. MONOPOLY
Elizabeth Magie is responsible for inventing one of the most popular board games of all time. This game was originally named "The Landlord's Game" and was invented back in 1903. Even though it's now used for a quality time with your family and having a good fun, the designer had created this game to demonstrate the tragic effect of greed.
3. SOLAR HEATING
Dr. Maria Telkes is responsible for the first system that used the energy of the sun for heating purposes. In 1925. she moved to USA and was hired on a project that was researching this very problem. In 1940. she developed and made available the first household solar heating system, and in realization of this project, she gained help of another woman - Architect Eleanor Raymond.
4. BEER
We can't be certain who made the first beer that we drink with delight ever since, but the research of the historians all point that the first beer was made by women. 7000 years ago in Mesopotamia women were in charge of making beer.
Back then, beer was considered to be a God's gift. Judging by it's popularity today, it remained one of the most popular drinks of all time, and all thanks to women.
5. FIRE ESCAPE STAIRS
First fire escape stairs on the outer side of the building that in case of a fire would make the evacuation easier were first made in 1897. by Anna Connelly. Her idea was accepted by a great number of architects.
6. BULLETPROOF VEST
Believe it or not, the signature bulletproof vest was made by a woman. Her name is Stephanie Kwolek, and the research that she conducted resulted in creation of the bulletproof vest, more accurately the materials that are used in their creation. The vest was patented in 1966.
