Japanese car manufacturer "Toyota" has set a new challenge to all the car manufacturers around the world with their announcement of starting the sale of the fully automated, self driving cars in 2020.
Toyotas plans are a part of a larger initiative of the Japanese
government to start the autonomous driving until the beginning of the
Tokyo's Olympics games in 2020.
With the overall advancement in telecommunication and sensor
technology, the autonomous driving is advancing by the minute.
This technology is advancing especially as a safety measure and in
complicated maneuvers (Parking in the tight spaces, etc...).
Toyota had introduced us to another one of their advanced
technologies which is already being tested on the roads of Tokyo. It's a
technology called "Intelligent Transportation System" which
enables the cars with the appropriate sensors to communicate with each other,
detect another cars or even pedestrians and warn the driver of the possible
dangers by sound and the images displayed on the dashboard.
On the day the car was presented, it drove
autonomously for 10 minutes with the 60 km/h (37 mp/h) limit, switching lanes,
accelerating and decelerating.
With Toyota's words that the entire idea of
autonomous driving is dangerous and unrealistic, they're about to make one big
step forward in that field of car industry.
While the idea of your car driving itself may
be really unappealing to the general audience, it's possible that this new
technology will eventually become essential.
